Garden Day at RCP (Pictures)

April 4th, 2015 brought us another sunny day in the Grandpa Allen Learning Garden.  We celebrated Spring with a Garden Work Party where RCP families, friends of the GALG, and staff, came together to plant, harvest, weed, and more.  We worked together to repave the walkway, fill in the creek with more beautiful stones, mulched the open spaces, and composted.  After a delicious lunched prepared and served by the Viveros family, we planted two "Four Sister's Planting Circles".  This is a planting tradition the comes from the Iroquois Nation wherein one plants corn, squash, beans, and a pollinating flower, in this case, amaranth and sunflowers.  This was the 6th Garden Work Party we have had at RCP and as always, it was a success.
Since the summer of 2013, the Trachtenberg Family, RCP families and friends have been redesigning and growing the garden into a flourishing learning space where the students explore, eat, have class, and grow their brains while feeling emotionally supported. Keep an eye out for further Garden Work Parties, you and your family are invited and we are always open to volunteers joining us. Thank you and happy Gardening!
