Film will screen daily at Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park

(Richmond, CA) – A new documentary film called “The War At Home” will debut at the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park on Saturday, December 8th and Sunday, December 9th, 2012. The 25-minute film will screen hourly at the park’s Visitor Education Center, starting at 11 AM. The last screening will begin at 4 PM.

Vocabulary level is strongly correlated with reading comprehension. Children with restricted oral vocabularies comprehend at lower levels. Vocabulary size in kindergarten is an effective predictor of reading comprehension in the mid-elementary years. The size and effective use of a child’s vocabulary is an important indicator of future literacy ability. Vocabulary, not early reading skill, is the best predictor of later reading comprehension. By third grade, many children can read words, but they fail to understand what they read due to vocabulary limitations. Children with restricted vocabulary by the third grade have declining comprehension scores in the later elementary grades.

I never understood baseball. Coming from Latin America where the king of sports is soccer, understanding the details of baseball was not attractive to me.

Nineteen West Contra Costa Unified School District elementary schools improved their Academic Performance Index scores from last year, while 13 schools experienced a decline.
