RCP Alumni
At Richmond College Prep, we’re proud of the incredible paths our students take long after they leave our classrooms. Our alumni embody the values of resilience, leadership, and lifelong learning. This page is dedicated to celebrating their journeys, sharing their successes, and staying connected to the RCP community that helped shape who they are today.
Alumni Highlight: Maria Avalos
We’re proud to spotlight Maria Avalos, a shining example of the lasting impact RCP has on its students. From student to educator, Maria’s journey has come full circle—and we’re honored to now have her as part of our teaching team.
Life After Richmond College Prep
After graduating from Richmond College Prep, Maria Avalos continued her academic journey at Summit K2 in El Cerrito for middle school and later attended Leadership Public Schools in Richmond for high school. She went on to earn her associate degree at Contra Costa College and then received her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from CSU East Bay.
Today, Maria has come full circle—she now teaches at the very school that helped shape her.
How did your time at RCP shape who you are today?
“My time at RCP has shaped me into the person I am today. I had teachers who truly cared about my education and well-being. Ms. Baronian, my 6th-grade teacher, had high expectations and nurtured my love for reading and writing. Mr. Jimenez helped strengthen my math skills, and I’m grateful for the dedication my teachers showed toward my growth. I’m still close with former classmates, and we often reflect on our time together—we still keep in touch to this day.”
