Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) gives parents and eligible students (18 years or older) important rights regarding student education records. As a public charter school, Richmond College Prep complies with FERPA and is committed to protecting student privacy.

Your Rights Under FERPA

FERPA requires your consent before we release personally identifiable information (PII) from education records, except where FERPA allows disclosure without consent—such as:

To school officials with legitimate educational interests
To other schools where the student is transferring
To comply with a judicial order or subpoena
In connection with financial aid, health and safety emergencies, or audits

4. File a Complaint

Directory Information

Richmond College Prep may disclose “directory information” without prior written consent unless parents or eligible students opt out. Directory information may include:

Student’s name
Grade level
Participation in school activities and events
Honors and awards
Photograph (for use in school publications, newsletters, or website)

If you do not want Richmond College Prep to disclose your student’s directory information, please submit a written request to Dr. Prier.
